Lead qualification

A practical lead qualification call script

Build a lead qualification script that gathers fit signals consistently, respects caller intent, and routes qualified opportunities.

Frame qualification as routing help

Use a branching script map, not a rigid monologue. It should open with purpose, explain why fit questions are asked, cover service need and constraints, summarize what was heard, and offer an approved next step.

Route unclear and sensitive opportunities

Procurement requests, partnerships, media calls, conflicts, unclear fit, and accessibility needs go to their named owners. If the prospect declines a question, record declined and continue with any lower-information route the policy permits.

Use a conversational script map

Record caller, organization, callback details, service of interest, problem to solve, location, current stage, desired timing, broad scope, stakeholders, relevant constraints volunteered, referral source, permission to follow up, fit reason, destination, and due time.

Keep the caller in control

The qualifier may ask approved questions and select a published route. They may not invent urgency, pressure disclosure of budget, guarantee results, give custom terms, reject a person based on protected traits, or disguise a sales call as neutral research.

Capture comparable fit signals

Useful phrasing connects the question to service: “To route this well, may I ask which location needs support?” A scripted explanation reduces the feel of an unexplained checklist.

Role-play varied prospects

Practice with an obvious fit, an early researcher, a competitor asking for information, and a prospect who declines to discuss timing. Have the receiving team judge whether the summary supports its next conversation.

Review fairness and usefulness

Evaluate complete and accurate records, route acceptance, questions declined, corrections by sales, follow-ups on time, duplicate opportunities, and disqualification reasons. Review reasons for consistency instead of rewarding raw qualified volume.
